This is nothing more than a page of links I use on a more or less daily basis. The links I visit most are nearer the top, while the ones on the bottom tend to be visited only when I have time.
Jerry Pournelle's Chaos Manor Jerry Pournelle's Chaos Manor was one of the biggest reasons I used to read the print version of Byte magazine on a regular basis. Byte is no more, but Chaos Manor lives. This is a geeky journalist who happens to be an SF author and (seems to be) an all-around nice guy.
Robert Bruce Thompson RBT's PC Hardware in a nutshell. This is for his daybook. Live vicariously through others? Only if it's interesting.
Fox News Channel Fox News Channel. Fair & Balanced. Yep.
The Reference Desk The Reference Desk has links to knowledge about just about anything. The first draw was the connection speed test.
New Scientist New Scientist deals with breaking news in the world of science. Most of the articles are not quite up to the minute, but are certainly timely.
C|Net news.com I'm mostly interested in computer news, so this is the first news channel I check in the morning. Updated throughout the day
Wired News Another news channel. This is more of a daily.
History Channel Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. Well, here's a good place to go to learn about the past. This page is getting heavier on graphics and advertising, but the history is still good. I recommend the main history articles and the Automotive history.
Byte Magazine This is the on-line version of Byte. Not as good as holding a magazine in your hands, but better than nothing. They seem to have brought in many of the old columnists, which is a plus. The best part, though, is that they maintain the spirit of the old Byte.
PC Magazine This is the on-line version of PC Magazine. I gave up on the print version. Seemed there were too many ads, not enough "good" content. But every once in a while....
Ziff-Davis Network Ziff Davis publishes PC Magazine. Not as stimulating and wonderful as the old BYTE magazine, but pretty good. This is no replacement for the print version, but this is still pretty good.
Fred On Everything FredOnEverything is a newspaper column on the web, providing politically incorrect commentary on subjects great and small.
The Register The Register is a biting, scathing look at the world. News that sometimes just doesn't make it on other news sites. "Biting the hand that feeds IT"
