Last week, I celebrated my 6-month anniversary. How did I celebrate? I didn't. To be honest, if I hadn't glanced at my calendar, I would have missed it completely. Believe it or not, that's a good thing. It's not even part of the problem any more.
I did some of this after work yesterday. Need to get this up soon, even if it's not complete...
It's been six months since I've had a cigarette, and it's time for an update. You know how that goes.
I recently looked at my pages from six months ago. Wow. 5 years ago I never would have said anything like that. It still embaresses me. But some things are more important than a little blush. I hope the words on those pages help someone
Some of the things that quitting has done for me.
  • I've taken up running. I know this is a repeat, but now I'm competitive. At least in my age group. Nothing more than 10 miles this year. Last year, 10 blocks would have kicked my butt.
  • I can still smell the girls. <G>
  • I don't scout out every place I go to figure out where I can go to grab a smoke.
  • What a wonderful flavor! Everything seems to taste better.
  • I don't smell like an ashtray anymore.
  • No, won't say that I taste better, but I can make you think it!
  • My concentration, which went away for a while, has come back. Withdrawal can be a real kick in the butt.
  • Non-smokers can ride in my car without retching.
  • I don't have to clean my windows as often.
  • I can honestly say that I've been there. It is possible to quit. It's not easy, but it can be done.
  • I have an extra 10 years to look forward to. (Okay, that's a statistic, but even statistics can look good once in a while.)
Of course, there is a down side.
  • What do I do with all those Marlboro Miles?
  • Camel cash is trouble, too.
  • What do I do with all those extra t-shirts?
Okay, those are not really down sides.
If you need help, you know, there is a place to go. I would be glad to offer support if you need it.
No, I'll not help you convince someone else to quit. It's something each person has to decide on his or her own.
